'Interpreting the Production of Science' 33k.

It is not often that one finds discussion of sociology of knowledge or of Marxism in the New Scientist. I managed to get these topics in under the banner of an expertise that scientist need to acquire if they are going to pontificate about the social relations of science, technology and medicine. Posing as an expert on expertise, I made it into the main popularising journal of science. The argument is a sort of precis of the argument of the longer essay on 'How Societies Constitute Their Knowledge' and appeared in New Scientist 88 (no. 1148) 29 March 1979, pp. 1026-28. I still think that a studious scientist could do worse than work his or her way through the works cited.
